Engineering Scope
3S Prime Engineering provided structural engineering for this custom multi-level hillside residence, including the gravity and lateral systems, foundations, retaining structures, and cantilevered elements supporting the open architectural design and expansive glazing.
Engineering Challenge
The steep hillside site, curved geometry, large cantilevers, and extensive floor-to-ceiling glazing created significant structural challenges while limiting conventional support locations.
Engineering Solution
An integrated system of deep foundations, grade beams, and steel framing was designed to accommodate the hillside conditions, large openings, and cantilevered elements while providing the required strength, stiffness, and seismic resistance. Particular attention was given to controlling deflection and structural movement at the glazed façades.
